Environmental Poem

By Spencer Tafadzwa Muvezwa

I was born with a purpose.
But?
i did not know the meaning of my purpose
I was born with a purpose
But?
I did not know what was my purpose

Obscenity was my enemy.
I hated seeing garbage and trash on the road sides
Visualizing litter on television triggered puking in me
Cleanliness was next to Godliness
Was it that I was a child?

I lived in a small world as a kid
The only shelter I knew was always litter free
Indeed it was a small world
As I sat in the backyard
Listening to the melodic humming of the trees
And the hilarious chirping of the birds

Not until I grew up
Exposure of the bigger world appeared like dawn…..
I stated not to hate litter and garbage
Became the city’s new normal
Because my world was now small for me to live
I breathed the new dirty air
I started not to hate litter and garbage
Because it was was everywhere
And seemed like my new normal life

One day my heart started to tell me
That my world is smart
But you are now being dragged to the wrong world by profit lovers only
That’s when I realized my purpose

My purpose is to give people knowledge about keeping the environment clean
My purpose is to speak for nature
My purpose is to protect environment
My purpose is to live well with the environment
I realized that my true lover was nature
And I decided that I should protect aand stand up for my lover.
Nurturing nature for in my heart she has a special place
